"Abu Ali Ghassani says that Abulfath Nasr has information from Hassan Sakti Samarkandi that lived in year 1085. He said: in Samarkand in some of the years there would be shortage of rain. People would request for rain but it wouldn’t rain. An honorable man that was very well known came to the judge of Samarkand and said: I have a suggestion for you. The judge said: what is your suggestion? He replied my suggestion is for you to exit the city with the people and head towards the Grave of Imam Muhammad Ibn Ismail Bukhari. His grave is in the city of Kartang we can go there and plead for rain by his grave and God willing rain will come."
The judge accepted and therefore the judge gathered the people and exited the city and pleaded for rain and cried at Imam Bukhari's grave and asked for intercession. Then God sent rain upon them. There was so much rain that people had to stay in Kartang for eight days before they were able to return to Samarkand even though the distance was not more than three miles. "
Sh: This was very interesting that they pleaded to Bukhari's grave and it literally mentions the word intercession.
Dr: If you pay attention to your own books there are many similar quotes.
Sh: I think that it is sufficient. Let's move on to another debate.
Suddenly Sheikh paid attention to two books on the table in front of him and asked:
Supplication in Shia'sm
Sh: What is this book of Mafatih Al Jinan?
Dr: One of our scholars that have been dead for a very long time has gathered all of the supplications that the Prophet and the Ahl al Bayt have recommended us to read in one book and has called it Mafatih Al Jinan.
Page 73
Sh: Yes, I have heard of it before but had never seen it. Apparently you have a lot of respect for the book. They say that even as much as the Quran or even more.
Dr: Yes we have high respect for the book but not as much as the Quran. We consider the Quran to be the word of God and so we say if you wish to have God talk to you read the Quran and if you wish to talk to God read the supplication.
Sh: We have prayers too but not to the extent like this book.
Dr: This book contains parts of the supplications that we read on a yearly basis. We do have other books too. For instance we have another book called Sahifa Sajjadiya that has an interesting supplication in it.
Sh: Do you mean that people read these supplications on a daily basis?
Dr: Not every day. But there are parts that can be read on some days and others on other days.
Mostly they are for specific days or occasions. For instance there are supplications that are for when you have finished reading the daily prayers. Some of the supplications are for Friday nights, some for days and some for nights of different occasions such as Rajab, Shaban, Ramadan or special days like Arafa.
Sh: Which one do you personally read?
Dr: I also read some of the supplications written in here but there some in particular that are very moving.
Sh: Please show me I wish to see those parts.
Dr: Sure, here you go. For instance there is a supplication called Kumeyl that Ali taught Kumeyl:

"O Allah! Forgive me my such sins as would affront my continence O Allah! Forgive me my such sins as would bring down calamity
O Allah! Forgive me my such sins as would change divine favours (into disfavours) O Allah! Forgive me my such sins as would hinder my supplication
O Allah! Forgive me such sins as bring down misfortunes (or afflictions) O Allah! Forgive my such sins as would suppress hope
O Allah! Forgive every sin that I have committed and every error that I have erred O Allah! I endeavour to draw myself nigh to Thee through Thy invocation And I pray to Thee to intercede on my behalf And I entreat Thee by Thy benevolence to draw me nearer to Thee And grant me that I should be grateful to Thee and inspire me to remember and to invoke Thee
O Allah! I entreat Thee begging Thee submissively, humbly and awestricken To treat me with clemency and mercy, and to make me pleased and contented with what Thou hast allotted to me And cause me to be modest and unassuming in all circumstances"
Sh: This is so interesting, very interesting. This shows the different kind of sins that we have.
Dr: Yes, Please have a look at this too. There is a prayer in the name of "Monajat Shabaniyah"
that is read mostly in the month of Shaaban.

In the Name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful
My Lord, bestow Your blessings on Muhammad and his descendants; respond to my prayer when I pray to You; listen to my call when I call You; and turn to me when I make my submission to You in confidence. I have come running to you and am standing before you imploring you in humility and hoping to get the reward you have for me. You know what is in my heart, and you are aware of what I need. You know my mind and are not unaware of my future and of my present, of what I want to begin my speech with; of the
Page 75
request I would utter, and of the hopes I have in regard to my ultimate lot.
My Lord, whatever you have destined for me up to the end of my life, whether concerning the open aspect of my life or the hidden aspect of it, is bound to come. What is to my advantage and what is to my disadvantage - all my losses and gains are in your hand, not in the hand of anybody else.
My Lord, if you deprive me, who else will provide me; and if you let me down, whom else will help me?1
Sh: This is the most perfect divine unity.
Dr: You are precisely correct.
Sh: So they say that you believe that everything is in the hands of the Imams
Dr: We have retrieved these prayers from the Imams themselves. We place the Imams as mediator of emanation in the presence of God.
Sh: Which are the prayers that you personally read?
Dr: The morning supplication which is non compulsory to be read after the compulsory Morning Prayer. Please look at these:

I have only come to Thee from the direction of hopes or clung to the ends of Thy cords when my sins have driven me from the house of union?
So what an evil mount upon which my soul has mounted - its caprice! Woe upon it for being seduced by its own opinions and wishes! And destruction be upon it for its audacity toward its Master and Protector! My God, I have knocked upon the door of Thy mercy with the hand of my hope, fled to Thee seeking refuge from my excessive caprice and fixed the fingers of my love to the ends of Thy cords 2
Sh: This supplication is also recommended by Ali
Dr: Yes.
Sh: How come these supplications are not mentioned in any of our books?
Dr: Unfortunately there are very few supplications in your books. Please pay attention to the excerpt here. This is the one that Ali Ibn Hussein has taught to Abu Hamza Thumali:
"Through you have I know you And You guided me to you and called me towards you, if it were not for you, I would not have known what you are"

Sh: These supplications are a testament to completed unification of God.
Dr: But your friends, in Al Masjid an Nabawi and in Masjid al Haram consider us as gentiles because of reading these prayers and calling for God.
Sh: We seek refuge in God (Naouza Bellah), these are higher than the honor of martyr's.
Dr: Yes, but unfortunately the officials responsible for spreading the word of Islam in Masjid an Nabawi and Masjid al Haram without even looking at these supplications accuse us readers as infidels.
Dr: Please look at these passages:
َﻭَ ﺑِﻌَﻔْﻮِﻙ ﻋَﻠَﻲﱠ ﺗَﺼَﺪﱠﻕْ ﻭَ ﺑِﻔَﻀْﻠِﻚَ ﻫَﺒْﻨِﻲ ﺧَﻄَﺮِﻱ ﻣَﺎ ﻭَ ﺭَﺏﱢ ﻳَﺎ ﺃَﻧَﺎ ﻣَﺎ "What am I? O Lord! What important do I have? Grant me through Your benevolence, and be charitable to me by means of Your pardon"

Sh: I am astonished with all the arguments it has brought for God. This supplication answered my forty years question that why do we not sin in front of a five year old innocent child. But if
Page 78
no one would be not around we would not consider that God is still there with us. But this supplication says that if I sin when you are around is because you are my covering star.
Dr: Please see this passage too.

"If you forgive me, O Lord, then you have forgiven sinners like me for a long time, because you magnanimity, My Lord, is too Exalted than to recompense those with shortcomings"
Sh: This teaches you the understanding of one's sins specifically the ones that we don't even consider to be sins. This prayer is very good for the Arabian people living in Arab countries.
This makes them aware as they run away from scholars they get to know that it is a sin and that God does not permit them to his door because of it. I sincerely enjoyed this. Please tell me if there is any other passage that you would like me to know about.
Dr: Please have a look at another argument made:
ﺍﻟْﻤُﺴِﻴﺌُﻮﻥَ ﺴْﺘَﻐِﻴﺚُ َﻭَ ﻳ ﻓَﺒِﻤَﻦْ ﺑِﻚَ ﺍﻟْﻮَﻓَﺎءِ ﺃَﻫْﻞَ ﺇِﻻﱠ ﺗُﻜْﺮِﻡُ ﻻَ ﻛُﻨْﺖَ ﺇِﻥْ
"If You honour none but those who loyal to You, then whose shelter will the evildoers seek?"

"And I take an oath by Allah, that I know that the happiness of Your Prophet is more beloved to You than the happiness of Your enemy"
Sh: These supplications position God in a way that he would open his forgiveness to the prayer and puts him on the spot. He would never grant the happiness of Satan and would make his Prophet pleased instead.

Dr: This is a very interesting supplication from the father of Imam Sajad whom is Imam Hussein in the name of Arafa
Sh: Hang on where is that?
Dr: This is the prayer that Imam Hussein Ibn Ali read on the day of Arafa
