THE DOCTOR AND THE SHEIKHS' DEBATE

Page 192

Day Sixth of Zihijjah

After finishing my Zuhr prayer we agreed to meet in front of the door of Umrah and to follow up our discussion at the Sheikh's hotel. We did that and ended up having lunch in the Sheikh's room and continued the conversation we were having yesterday.

Hazrat Mahdi in Ahl Sunnat's Books

Dr: Shall we start the new topic I wanted to talk about yesterday?

Dr Amr Moosa: Doctor, do you not have anything else to talk about other than the government?

Dr: Do you agree that eventually in the future there will be one government in the world ruled by one person?

Dr Zohair: There is one already. They call it a small village of the world. What I mean is that the world is considered as a village and is governed by America.

Dr: Have you heard of the name "Mahdi Al Muntazer" in your books?

Sh: We have heard some sort of thing but not studied it well enough.

Dr: But it is familiar in any Islamic countries such as Turkey, Egypt, Sudan, Iraq and...

Sh: Apparently he will also start a government.

Dr: He will appear at the apocalypse and he will create a government that is solely based on religion in the world.

Dr Zohair: Who is this Mahdi that is going to create a religious government?

Dr: He is one of the Prophet's grandsons.

Dr Amr Moosa: Where is he? Where is he from? When is he born?

Dr: I don't wish to get involved with the details and this kind of discussion.

Sh: Then what did you want to talk about?

Dr: I wanted to say that, the Mahdi that all of the Muslims are waiting for is also going to create a religious government in the world.

Sh: He isn't that well known.

Dr: This Mahdi is so well known that Hollywood has made a film about him named "Mahdi"

Dr Amr Moosa: Mahdi?

Page 193

Dr: Yes, Mahdi.

Dr Zohair: What was it about?

Dr: It is about a man named Mahdi that appears in Sudan; he claims a worldwide government and conquers everywhere in Africa, Turkey, Iraq and some of the European countries and gets to Saudi Arabia. On his way he comes across oil wells with western lasers and eventually fails and is killed.

Sh: But apparently Mahdi does start a government and manages to conquer the world before he dies.

Dr: Yes, that is exactly right but they wanted to say that the Mahdi that you all are waiting for will also be defeated by us.

Dr Zohair: Now why does Mahdi appear from Sudan?

Dr: That is because someone named Mahdi claimed to be him a couple of years ago. The famous Sadegh Al Mahdi in Sudan that managed to govern Sudan is his grandson. He also managed to be prime minister.

Dr Zohair: Where does the real Mahdi appear from?

Dr: He will appear from Mecca.

Sh: Do you also believe in him?

Dr: The difference between you and the School of Ahl al Bayt is that in your books there is someone mentioned that is the exact match of Mahdi but we say that he is born and is alive and will appear when the time is right and you say that he is born close to the time.

Sh: Please tell us more so we can get to know him better.

Dr: I don't think it is necessary. What is important is for us to know that there is such a leader coming and he will guide the human race in a way that there will no longer be any oppression and immorality.

Sh: Then what is the story behind him being alive?

Dr: Based on Hadith from the Prophet that has also been mentioned in your books, the world will not be lacking a Hujat (divine proof). Therefore, after the Prophet passing away there must always be one Hujat and religious leader in the world.

Sh: Who were the people after the Prophet?

Dr: We agreed to discuss that at the end of our debate.

Page 194

Sh: You are killing us with anticipation. Every time we come to the discussion regarding Calipha you say later.

Dr: It is the same twelve people that you have in your Hadith's but the people and their applicability's are others that you know of.

Sh: What number is this Mahdi?

Dr: He is the twelfth person.

Sh: Do you mean to say that he is alive and has been born and now has lived for 1400 years?

Dr: Yes.

Sh: There are many questions about this person but please just answer this one question and then I will let go of the others.

The Age of Imam Mahdi

Dr: What question?

Sh: How is it possible for someone to live more than a thousand years?

Dr: I will bring two ways mentioned in the Quran and hope that God willing, it will convince you.

Sh: If it is from the Quran I will definitely be convinced.

Dr: Very well, first of all God regarding Noah in Surat Al Ankabut verse 14 says:

"And we certainly sent Noah to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years, and the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers."

This verse says that he lived for 950 years which means that it is possible to live that long is that right?

Sh: Yes, Noah lived for 950 years.

Dr: We do have many more Prophets that lived for long times.

Page 195

Sh: That is right.

Dr: Now another proof from the Quran.

Sh: What is the other explanation from Quran?

Dr: Surat As Saffat, verse 139 - 144 it says:

"And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers."

"[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship."

"And he drew lots and was among the losers."

"Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy."

"And had he not been of those who exalt Allah,"

Page 196

"He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected."

That means that If God wishes, he can not only keep someone alive for 1400 years but for the end of time.

Sh: That was a very interesting reasoning.

Dr: Now please pay attention to another fact. Well I have not seen this in the books of Tafsir.

Sh: What fact?

Dr: Quran says that Yunus was kept in the stomach of a whale therefore that means that the whale had to also stay alive and what if the whale lived forever too? What I mean to say is that at least if Yunus had to stay alive the whale has to live too.

Sh: Doctor I accept that it is possible to live for more than thousand years.

Dr: Thank the Lord; let's go to the next discussion then.

Sh: Are there Hadith about Mahdi in our books too?

Dr: Yes here you go In Jame ul Ahadis, volume 13, page 339:

"After me there will be Caliphas and then after them military commanders and then after them kings and after kings there will be wicked and oppressors so then a man will appear from my Ahl al Bayt that will fill the world with justice and righteousness just like it was with cruelty."

Sh: There are more topics than what you mentioned about Mahdi in our books.

Dr Zohair: Sheikh Ibrahim the Doctor does not have much proof of Mahdi from our books.

Dr: I wanted to save them for later but if you wish, here you go: In book Eshrat Al Sa'a, where it talks about the conditions of judgment day, volume 1 page 105 it says as below:

"Allame Shukani says: The frequency of Hadith's regarding Mahdi Muntazar that requires reflection on is about 50 which in them there are correct, weak and good but without a doubt many frequent of them. There are many circumstances and the fact of its frequency that make them legit but there are many companions referring to him.

Therefore, there is no other place to Ijtihad but in this case."

He will be dominant on the rules of Islam and is named Mahdi. Whatever mentioned regarding the conditions of the judgement day is all correct and proved to be right. Christ will also appear shortly after him; he will kill Dajal or will appear at the same time and will assist in killing him. He will join Mahdi in prayer."

"Sheikh Abdul Muhsen Ibn Hamd Al Ebad Al Badr in his book has strongly and strictly mentioned his opinion regarding Ahl Sunnat and has cited a couple of Hadith about Mahdi Muntazar and his phenomenon. It all count's to be 26 companions in addition to the Imams that have mentioned these Hadith's in their books that adds up to thirty six Imams. From them in addition, the four companions of the Sunan ( Nisani, Tarmazi, Ibn Majah and Abu Davood) and Imam Ahmad in his book of Musnad and Ibn Hayan in his book of Sahih and Hakim in his book of Al Mustarak have all mentioned Mahdi or have mentioned Hadith mentioning something regarding him. There are also scholars that have analysed the Hadith's regarding Mahdi and believe that they are true."

Dr Zohair: I accept.

Page 198

Dr: There is more, for instance this same book mentions Bukhari in Mukhtasar Al Bukhari, page 324 Hadith numbers 1440 says:

ﻣﻨﻜﻢ ﻭﺇﻣﺎﻣﻜﻢ ﻓﻴﻜﻢ ﻣﺮﻳﻢ ﺍﺑﻦ ﻧﺰﻝ ﺇﺫﺍ ﻛﻨﺘﻢ ﮐﻴﻒ

"How would you be if the son of Maryam would appear amongst you and you have your Imam amongst yourselves?"

It wouldn't be so bad to have a look at his signs and miracles too.

Sh: Which books mention his signs?

Dr: In the same book from Abu Naeem, book of Al Sa'a Le Esharat Al Sa'a, page 85 it mentions Ali Ibn Abitaleb citing the signs and miracles of Mahdi:

"The sign of the Prophet (s.a.w.a) is on his shoulder. He will be with Jesus and the Christ will stand to pray behind him. The earth will stand like golden columns and the people's hearts will be needless and blessing on earth will exceed. One of his signs is that he will bring out the treasures hidden in Kabaa and he will divide it among the people. A sign from him will be that the date tree will never die and it stay green and grow leaves. They will ask of him to show a miracle sign and he will point to a bird in the sky and the bird will come straight down on his hand."

Tarmazi in volume 1, page 174 in the section that says "ﻣﺎﺟﺎء ﺍﻟﻤﻬﺪﻱ ﻓﻲ "cites that:

ﻋَﻦْ ﺭِﻱﱡ ْﺣَﺪﱠﺛَﻨَﺎ ﺍﻟﺜﱠﻮ ﺳُﻔْﻴَﺎﻥُ ﺣَﺪﱠﺛَﻨَﺎ ﺃَﺑِﻲ ﺣَﺪﱠﺛَﻨِﻲ ﻗَﺎﻝَ ﺍﻟْﻜُﻮﻓِﻲﱡ ﺍﻟْﻘُﺮَﺷِﻲﱡ ﻣُﺤَﻤﱠﺪٍ ﺑْﻦِ ﺃَﺳْﺒَﺎﻁِ ﺑْﻦُ ﻋُﺒَﻴْﺪُ » - ٦٥١٢ ﻗَﺎﻝَ ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪِ ﻋَﺒْﺪِ ﻋَﻦْ ﺯِﺭﱟ ﻋَﻦْ ﺑَﻬْﺪَﻟَﻪًَْ ﺑْﻦِ ﻋَﺎﺻِﻢِ ﺍﺳْﻤُﻪُ ﻳُﻮَﺍﻃِﺊُ ﺑَﻴْﺘِﻲ ﺃَﻫْﻞِ ﻣِﻦْ ﺭَﺟُﻞٌ ﺍﻟْﻌَﺮَﺏَ ﻳَﻤْﻠِﻚَ ﺣَﺘﱠﻰ ﺍﻟﺪﱡﻧْﻴَﺎ ﺗَﺬْﻫَﺐُ ﻟَﺎ ﻭَﺳَﻠﱠﻢَ ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻪِ ﻪُ ﺍﻟﻠﱠ ﺻَﻠﱠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪِ ﺭَﺳُﻮﻝُ ﻗَﺎﻝَ . ﺍﺳْﻤِﻲ

"The Prophet (s.a.w.a) said: The world will not end unless a man from my Ahl al Bayt rules amongst the Arabs and his name will be same as mine."

Dr Zohair: Based on this Hadith, his name should be Muhammad not Mahdi.

Dr: His actual name is that but because they didn't want anyone to know who he is and to stay safe from the hard of the governments therefore, he is famous for the other name.

Page 199

Sh: I am not aware of the reason but I do know that this Hadith is true and the name Mahdi has been mentioned a lot.

Dr: In Kanzol Amaal, volume 14, page 264 there are the following Hadith's:

ﻳﻠﻲ ﺣﺘﻰ ﺍﻟﻴﻮﻡ ﺫﻟﻚ ﺍﷲ ﻟﻄﻮﻝ ﻳﻮﻡ ﺇﻻ ﺍﻟﺪﻧﻴﺎ ﻣﻦ ﻳﺒﻖ ﻟﻢ ﻟﻮ ﺍﺳﻤﻲ، ﺍﺳﻤﻪ ﻳﻮﺍﻃﺊ ﺑﻴﺘﻲ ﺃﻫﻞ ﻣﻦ ﺭﺟﻞ »ﻳﻠﻲ ١٦٦٨٣-

Sh: We accept Doctor, I did say that there are many chain of transmissions about him.

Dr: I mentioned them for Dr Zohair.

Dr Zohair: Doctor I accept, you have many chain of transmissions for Mahdi too.

Dr: The ones I mentioned are only from the books of Hadith but there are plenty more in the books of Tafsir.

Sh: I had seen them in the books but not in Tafsir.

Dr: Your interpreters know some verses of the Quran about Mahdi and have mentioned it in their Tafsirs.

Sh: Which verses?

Dr: Here you go:

Qurtabi in the book of Al Jamaah Al Ahkam Al Quran, volume 8, page 111, for the interpretation of Surat at Tawbah verse 33:

Page 200

"It is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, although they who associate others with Allah dislike it."

The only time that Islam actually wins over all of the other religions is when Mahdi rises. Until then men will either have to convert to Islam or they have to pay ransom. And it has been said that Mahdi is Jesus. That is wrong as we have Hadith stating that Mahdi will be from the Prophet's descendants.

Siyoti has mentioned in Al Dor ul Mansour, volume 1, page 264 for the interpretation of the verse 114 of the Quran from Surat Al Baqarah:

"And who are more unjust than those who prevent the name of Allah from being mentioned in his mosques and strive toward their destruction. It is not for them to enter them except in fear. For them in this world is disgrace and they will have in the Hereafter a great punishment?"

It has been written: Abasement and humiliation will rise when Mahdi rises and he will conquer Constantinople and kill them all. The same things have been mentioned in Tafsir Tabari and Tafsir Kashf ul Asrar.

Hafiz Qondozi in Yana bi' Al Moa'da page 514 mentions the following for the interpretation of verse number 17 Surat Al Hadid:

"Know that Allah gives life to the earth after its lifelessness. We have made clear to you the signs; perhaps you will understand."

Page 201

He believes that: The Lord will keep him alive by keeping him existing and so he could do justice and to revive the earth from the justice he possesses after his death because of the injustice spread on earth.

It is also mentioned in the same book page 515 for the interpretation of verse number 24 Surat Al

Jinn:

"[The disbelievers continue] until, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who is weaker in helpers and less in number."

It has been mentioned in this way that where it says "
