Sh: This was supplication of Raajin.

Dr: Yes, why did you pick this one?

Page 103

Sh: I saw that it has really interesting concepts.

Dr: Please go ahead.

Sh: This is the supplication of Mohebbin.

Dr: Have a little break and then we can talk about these supplications.

Sh: Please allow us to discuss them after I finish this supplication.

Dr: I haven't got anything to discuss if there is anything you wish to say about them, please do so.

Sh: To be honest I have nothing to discuss about them also. I am just so overwhelmed by them that I just wish to applaud them by showing you some parts of them.

Dr: Very well. Show me the parts.

Sh: This is supplication of Mohebbin.

"Allow me the honor of a glimpse of your beauty and bestow me your kind and generous nature and never look away from me O Most Merciful Most Generous"

Dr: Typically supplications are like this. The morning supplication that we saw yesterday was the same. It first introduced God then mentions the blessings that God has given us.

ﺳﻠﻄﺎﻧﻪ ﻭ ﺑﻴﺪﻩ ﻋﻨﻲ ﺍﻻﺳﻮء ﺍﻛﻒ ﻛﻒ ﻭ ...ﻳﺎ ﻧﻪ ﺍﻣﺎ ﻭ ﺩﺍﻣﻨﻪ ﻣﻬﺎ ﻓﻲ ﺍﺭﻗﺪﻧﻲ ﻣﻦ

Then it sends it greetings to the Prophet that showed us the way to him. Then again it introduces itself. What would happen if God was not around? What has my inner self brought on me?

ﺭﺟﺎﻳﻲ ﺑﻴﺪ ﺭﺣﻤﺘﻚ ﺑﺎﺏ ﻗﺮﻋﺖ ﺍﻟﻬﻲ

"I am empty handed but I am hopeful"

Sh: I am astonished with the sequel these supplications have. I mean it seems as though all of them follow a certain trend.

Dr: Yes, typically it is that way and we evaluate the authenticity of the supplication.

Sh: Unfortunately we are unaware of these supplications. The volumes of our supplications are very limited and mostly are the same ones that are mentioned in the Quran and it starts with Dear Lord or My Lord.

Dr: Praise the Lord, regarding this matter we are prosperous.

Sh: How many books do you have like this Mafatih?

Dr: We have many supplication books. This is because many of our old clerics cited authentic supplications from the Ahl al Bayt, in their books.

Sh: Do you mean that you have more supplications other than this one?

Dr: We have so many supplications that if we had time and dedicated all of the hours of our Hajj to it we still would not have enough time.

Sh: These daily supplications, just like I said: before, are very beautiful especially Sunday and Tuesday.

Dr: You are absolutely right.

Page 106

Sh: The supplications being read after the prayers are also very good. For every pray there is a supplication afterwards.

Combining the Zuhr, Asir and Maghrib, Isha Prayer

Sh: If you read the Zuhr and Asir pray together and read Maghrib and Isha together, then what do you do for the Taghibat (supplications after prayer)?

Dr: Between the Zuhr and Asir pray we read the Taghibat for Zuhr pray after Zuhr pray and the Taghibat for the Asir pray after Asir pray.

Sh: In your opinion, do you not see any problem in reading the Zuhr, Asir, Maghrib and Isha pray at the same time? When the rest of the Muslims are reading them separately.

Dr: I have to admit I think that our Sunni brothers are acting better than we are here. I mean that they read each prayer at its own time.

Sh: Thank the Lord that you at least approve of one thing that we do.

Dr: Dear Sheikh, I did initially start to discuss the similarities between us and did tell you that we didn't have many differences in these grounds and praying was one of them.

Sh: Yes, regarding the basic Prayer we agreed but the fact that we read them separately was what I wanted to point out.

Dr: Reading the prayers together is allowed but it isn't necessarily better and therefore many of our clerics will delay a bit between the Maghrib and Isha , Zuhr and Asir prayer so that it could slowly be implicated.

Sh: Do you have a reason for reading the prayers together?

Dr: Yes, please look at the software on my mobile. On page 105 of Sunan, "Tarmazi" says from Ibn Abbas:

ﺍﺭﺍﺩ ﻣﺎ ﻋﺒﺎﺱ ﻻﺑﻦ ﻓﻘﻴﻞ ﻗﺎﻝ ﻣﻄﺮ ﻭﻻ ﺧﻮﻑ ﻏﻴﺮ ﻣﻦ ﺑﺎﻟﻤﺪﻳﻨﻪ ﺍﻟﻌﺸﺎ ﻭ ﺍﻟﻤﻐﺮﺏ ﺑﻴﻦ ﻭ ﺍﻟﻌﺼﺮ ﻭ ﺍﻟﻈﻬﺮ ﺑﻴﻦ ﺍﷲ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ ﺟﻤﻊ ﺍﻣﺘﻪ، ﻳﺤﺮﺝ ﻻ ﺍﻥ ﺍﺭﺍﺩ ﻗﺎﻝ ﺑﺬﻟﻚ؟

"The Prophet while staying in Medina delayed no time between the Zuhr and Asir, Maghrib and Isha prayer even though there was no rain or a scare of anything. They asked Ibn Abbas: What was the intention of the Prophet doing that? He replied: It was because he did not want to trouble his Ummah (meaning at times when if you delay between the prayers, it will cause any trouble it is okay to use this method)."

Page 107

Sh: They are trying to find a Fatwa for the same thing in Egypt so they can read the Zuhr and Asir prayer together.

Dr: In any case it is better to read them separately but it is also allowed to be read together.

Sh: Let's go back to the supplications.

Dr: I agree, let's go back to the supplications.

Sh: By the way, the supplication of Jawshan Kabir and Mujeer strengthened my belief in what you were saying regarding the fact that you don't consider God to be on the same level as the Prophet and Ali.

Dr: Yes, all of the supplication of Mujeer expressed the attributes of God and we read, "O Shelterer please shelter us."

Sh: The Jawshan Kabir supplication is the same.

Dr: That is correct, that supplication has one thousand names and attributes of the Lord that after every ten times we mention the God's name and his attributes again. Dear Lord please save us from the fire of hell. I am not sure if you have seen Jawshan Saghir as well?

Sh: Yes, I did get to see it but it had a major difference.

Dr: What difference?

Sh: It appears that this particular supplication is used for succeeding in war.

Dr: You are absolutely correct. In Fact, it was read in the thirty three days of war in Hezbullah Lebanon with Israel which ended in the success of Lebanon. Hezbullah had asked the Jawshan Saghir to be read for success.

Sh: Let's please go back to Sahifa Sajjadiya.

O He with whom is not lost the wage of the good- doers!

O He who is the ultimate object of the fear of the worshipers!

O He who is the utmost limit of the dread of the God fearing!

This is the station of him whom sins have passed from hand to hand

Offenses reins have led him on

And Satan has gained mastery over him

He fell short of what Thou hast commanded through neglect

And he pursued what Thou hast prohibited in delusion

Like one ignorant of Thy power over him

Or one who denies the bounty of Thy beneficence toward him

Until, when the eye of guidance was opened for him

And the clouds of blindness were dispelled

Page 109

He reckoned that through which he has wronged himself

And reflected upon that in which he had opposed his Lord

He saw his vast disobedience as vast and his great opposition as great

So turned to Thee, hoping in Thee and ashamed before Thee

And he directed his beseeching toward Thee, having trust in Thee

He repaired to Thee in his longing with certitude and he went straight to Thee in fear with sincerity

His longing was devoid of every object of longing but Thee

And his fright departed from every object of fear but Thee

So he stood before Thee pleading

His eyes turned toward the ground in humbleness

His head bowed before Thy might in lowliness"

Dr: Would you like us to read the whole supplication?

Sh: No, I just wish to show you these parts, you have read them before.

Sh: I have a problem with this supplication of Taubat because contrary to the Supplication of Mujeer or Jawshan Kabir, it implores to the Prophet and the Imams instead of God.

Dr: We discussed the imploring before. In this Supplication it seeks intercession just like the ones that the Sunni clerics in Smarghand implored to Bukhari's grave and now we implore to the Prophet and his Ahl al Bayt.

Sh: I accept, I acknowledge however, the month of Shaban had less Supplication and instead Ramadan had more.

Dr: That is because we do not just supplication independently. There must be an order from the Imams to read a specific supplication. I do agree however, that the month of Shaban has fewer supplications.

Sh: The month of Ramadan also has very interesting supplications. The important point there was that in most of the supplications it was requesting God to permit them to go to Hajj.

Page 110

Dr: That is correct. Some believe that the allowance of Pilgrimaging the Prophet and Hajj is decided in the month of Ramadan.

Sh: But the supplication for Abu Hamza Thumali is also for the month of Ramadan.

Dr: Yes, it has been recommended for the dawns of the month of Ramadan.

Sh: Then you would have to stay up all night to read that supplication.

Dr: Yes, it is a very long supplication. Even though it is possible that some read the whole supplication every night but typically one or two page of the Supplication is read every night.

Sh: The important fact about this supplication is that it explains many of the punishments. For instance we see in the supplication of Abu Hamza Thumali:

ﻟﺘﻲ ﻓﺨﺬ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻤﺎء ﻣﺠﺎﻟﺲ ﻣﻦ ﻓﻘﺪﺗﻨﻲ ﻓﻘﺪ ﻟﻌﻠﻚ

ﺁﻳﺴﺘﻨﻲ... ﺭﺣﻤﺘﻚ ﻓﻤﻦ ﺍﻟﻐﺎﻓﻠﻴﻦ ﻓﻲ ﺭﺃﻳﺘﻨﻲ ﻟﻌﻠﻚ ﺍﻭ

Dr: As I said:, our supplications are all thanking, learning and seeking. In this part it is teaching many things for instance in the supplication of Ramadan:

ﺍﻟﺴﺮﻭﺭ ﺍﻟﻘﺒﻮﺭ ﺍﻫﻞ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺍﺩﺧﻞ ﺍﻟﻠﻬﻢ

Supplication starts for the people in the graveyard and those that are dead and then follows up to the deprived, poor, sick, travellers and ...This teaches us not to just think about ourselves.

Sh: Yes, you are correct, that was a very interesting fact that you mentioned. What is the supplication of Ahd?

Dr: That is one those discussions that I would like to have with you on a separate matter.

Sh: These separate discussions are increasing.

Dr: It is because I have studied mathematics and can deal with discussions one by one, 1,2,3, and so on.

Pilgrimaging in Shia'sm and the licence Permission for Sunni to Pilgrimage

Sh: I agree however there were many supplications in this book.

Dr: Our supplications are very different to yours.

Page 111

Sh: In our supplications we say:

ﺑﺮﻛﺎﺗﻪ ﻭ ﺍﷲ ﺭﺣﻤﻪًْ ﻭ ﺍﷲ ﻧﺒﻲ ﻳﺎ ﻋﻠﻴﻚ ﺍﻟﺴﻼﻡ

"Peace be upon you, O' Prophet and the mercy and blessings of God"

Dr: Well your supplications are a bit longer than that however, due to the fact that they are based on chain of transmissions of Hadith that are incorrect, they are very short.

Sh: I say not as long are your supplications and not as short as ours. Some of your supplications are either one page or ten pages long even though I have not read them. What is the story behind them?

Dr: For the Ahl al Bayt, pilgrimage and supplications are different to pilgrimage for our Sunni brothers.

Sh: Why do you just class yourself as followers of Ahl al Bayt? Are we not followers of Ahl al Bayt?

Dr: No you are not supporters of Ahl al Bayt. You respect Ahl al Bayt and you like them but you don't follow them. We look at them as leaders that had the responsibility of guiding a society.

But you look at them as the Prophet's children and like them accordingly. I have to add that, this is the case with you guys or else the Wahabis only view them as normal Muslims. Have a look at the books of Ibn Taymiyyah. It has gotten so bad that recently tens of books have been written against him.

Sh: We are talking about us, let's leave Ibn Taymiyyah alone.

Dr: Very well.

Sh: Pilgrimaging your way is certainly not allowed.

Dr: Let's have a look at the software on my mobile. Let's see what it says regarding pilgrimaging the graves.

Sh: We are permitted to pilgrimage them we do not need the software.

Dr: That is true, but you said: first that pilgrimaging the graves was forbidden then was freed.

Sh: We have many Hadith's, very many.

Dr: There are many Hadith's in your books saying that the Prophet forbids three things and one of them was pilgrimaging the graves. That was allowed later on and was said that it teaches remembrance of the next world and prudence and piety in this world.
