THE DOCTOR AND THE SHEIKHS' DEBATE

Page 212

ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺭ ﺍﻟﻲ ﻳﺪﻋﻮﻧﻪ ﻭ ﺍﷲ ﺍﻟﻲ ﻳﺪﻋﻮﻫﻢ ﺍﻟﺒﺎﻏﻴﻪ ﺍﻟﻔﺌﻪ ﺗﻘﺘﻠﻪ ﻋﻤﺎﺭﺍً ﻭﻳﺢ

"Ammar is considered to be part of the group that has exited religion. He invites them to God and they invite him to the fire."

Sh: Yes, this Hadith is in most of our books.

Dr: Then please let's not fool ourselves and be honest with ones’ self. How can Muawiyah that as the Prophet has stated to be out of religion be chosen as his Calipha?

Sh: Unfortunately that is right. He cannot.

Dr: Dear Sheikh, have a look at the programme on my mobile. There are one hundred and seventy cases where this Hadith has been mentioned. Abdullah Ibn Amareb nel Aas discussed the killing of Ammar by Fe-a Baaqiyah and Muawiyah said Ali sent him to be killed. And you must have heard that Ali in response said Then Hamza must have been killed by the Prophet too and not the warriors of Abu Sofyan because the Prophet took him to the war.

Sh: We only accept the first four Caliphas, meaning the Rashedin Caliphas to be the rightful ones.

Dr: Then what happens to the twelve Prophet Caliphas?

Sh Usman: I have been a witness to the discussion between the Alazhar's scholars regarding the twelve Caliphas and no one has ever managed to give a proper answer about it.

Dr: They have no answer to give. How can Yazid be the Prophet's Calipha?

Sh: We don't pay much attention to the twelve people.

Dr: The twelve have to be identified. That is the Prophet's Hadith.

Sh: I confess that amongst these Caliphas there wasn't even one competent or more deserving to be the Prophet's Calipha.

Dr: Then we have to look for the twelve other than the ones you said.

Sh: Where are they?

Dr: The twelve Imams of the Shias which I will discuss them later.

Sh: I will wait for that.

Dr: Have a look at my mobile. Siyoti mentions in the book of Tarikh Caliphate, page 8 - 12 says something different as he knew that the twelve couldn't be the ones mentioned. He says:

Page 213

"The existence of the twelve Calipha is for all of the duration of the Islamic era"

Then he adds that the Rashedin Caliphas are the four people and Muawiyah and his two son's Zobair and Umar Iban Abdul Aziz is also included making eight people and four people will be added in the future.

Sh: To summarize one thing at least and to end this debate based on all of the Hadith's mentions we agree that the twelve Caliphas that the Prophet mentioned could have not been the ones that did become Calipha. Yazid could have not been considered as the Prophet's Calipha.

Sh Usman: I even am doubtful over his father too.

Dr: I too am doubtful over both of them.

Sh: But you are debating all twelve of them.

Dr: I am debating ten of them because I agree with Ali and Hasan.

Sh: We too accept this. Even if we wanted to stretch it we could say 5.

Sh Usman: I think deep inside Sheikh only accepts the two.

Dr: Well If you all agree let's finish this and continue it on Arafa night in Arafa.

Sh: That is good. I agree.

Page 214

Day Eighth of Zihijjah

We went to Arafa after sunset, eventually I managed to find Sheikh and his friends and after the normal meet and greets of Arafa we walked around the place and then...

Sh: Let's have a small amount of debate tonight as it is Arafa and scientific discussions are rewarding.

Dr: If you wish we could go and sit close to the tent here and continue our discussion. We can leave the rest of the rituals for later.

Sh: That is a good idea.

Dr: I agree as well.

Sh: In the name of God the merciful.

4- The Companions Objection over Ali Not Being Chosen as Calipha We came and sat in a corner at Arafa and continued our discussion.

Dr: Very well, we had a look at the different ways that Caliphas were chosen and noticed that they were not done correctly.

Sh: Yes, we agreed that they were done badly.

Dr: The next debate is over some of the companions objecting over Ali not being chosen as the first Calipha. Now let's examine why they were objecting.

Sh: It was natural for some of them to object.

Dr: Well if the objections were from normal companions we could not see it as a problem but what if they were the main companions?

Sh: I accept that.

Sh: Yes, some of these companions were of the Prophet's relatives.

Dr: These people were not just close to him. They were from the most prominent of them all.

Sh: Why prominent?

Dr: I will name them all and you are already aware of their virtues and then realise why they are classed prominent.

Sh: Please continue.

Page 215

Dr: Based on the chain of transmissions in your own books the following people did not claim their allegiance with Abubakr. Their names are mentioned in the book of Tarikh Belazari, Ibn Hajar Asqalani and Yaqubi. Some are also mentioned in the Sihah Sittah which we will have a look at and they are all mostly unanimous.

1. Ali Ibn Abi Taleb

2. Fatimah

3. Salman Farsi

4. Abuzar Qafari

5. Zobair Ibn Awam

6. Meqdad Ibn Aswad

7. Talha

8. Abbas Ibn Abdul Mutaleb

9. Fazl Ibn Abbas

10. Saad Ibn Abbas

11. Baride Aslami

12. Abdullah Ibn Abbas

13. Qeys Ibn Saad

14. Khaled Ibn Saeed

15. Sahl Ibn Hanif Ansari

16. Usman Ibn Hanif Ansari

17. Jaber Ibn Abdullah Ansari

18. Bara Ibn Azeb

19. Khazima Ibn Saabet

20. Ibu Ayub Ansari

Sh: They are all important names and maybe they objected because they were not involved in the choosing. But to class them as the people whom objected, you are right.

Dr: They didn’t object for not being able to interfere with the choosing of Calipha. They objected to the Calipha themselves as they were better suited than him. For instance have a look at this Hadith in Musnad Ahmad.

Musnad Ahmad, Musnad Umar Ibn Khattab, volume 1, pahe 372, Hadith number 362 says:

ﺃُﻗْﺮِﺉُ ﻭَﻛُﻨْﺖُ ﻋَﺒﱠﺎﺱٍ ﺍﺑْﻦُ ﻗَﺎﻝَ ﺭَﺣْﻠِﻪِ ﺇِﻟَﻰ ﺭَﺟَﻊَ ﻋَﻮْﻑٍ ﺑْﻦَ ﺣْﻤَﻦِ ﺍﻟﺮﱠ ﻋَﺒْﺪَ ﺃَﻥﱠ ﺃَﺧْﺒَﺮَﻩُ ﻋَﺒﱠﺎﺱٍ ﺳَﻜَﺖَ ﻓَﻠَﻤﱠﺎ ﺍﻟْﻤِﻨْﺒَﺮِ ﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪِ ﺭَﺳُﻮﻝَ ﻭَﺇِﻥﱠ ﺃَﻟَﺎ ﺃَﻗُﻮﻟَﻬَﺎ...

"Ibn Abbas says that we were at Hajj with Umar and ...Umar said: If I was alive when I return to Medina there are some things I would like to tell people in Friday prayer. So when he returned to Medina, on the Friday after the call of prayer he started to talk. Umar said: conducting our allegiance with Abubakr was a slip up and God saved us from its evil. Today, amongst us, there is no one like Abubakr that can assassinate people. And I had heard that Ali and Zobair and others that were with them objected and gathered at Fatimah's house, (The Prophets daughter).

Ansar (Helpers of the Prophets) objected also and gathered in Saqifah Bani Saaidah. And the Muhajerin (immigrants) gathered around Abubakr."

This proves that it was not just some of the immigrants and or Ahl Al Bayt that were objecting to Abubakr being chosen but many of the Ansar were there too.

Sh: Yes, Umar's speech has also been mentioned in many other places besides Musnad Ahmad too but I cannot recall their names to state them. However, eventually they all claimed their Allegiance in the end anyway.

Sh: Yes, they claimed their allegiance after pressure, scrutiny, threat's and causing scenes or else they all gathered in Fatimah's house and it is not clear exactly whom claimed allegiance in the end but Ansar, immigrants and some of the Ansar from Saqifah Bani Saaidah were also there.

Sh: Well in the end some of the companions were in agreement with this and mostly claimed allegiance. Some did object but they were the minority.

Dr: Were the people that gathered in Fatimah's house and the ones in Saqifah better or not? Let's go back and have a look at the companions that were classed as good by the Prophet.

Musnad Ahmad, volume 46, page 442, Hadith 21890:

"The Prophet (s.a.w.a) said: Indeed the almighty God is fond of 4 of my companions and told me to like them too. They asked O' Messenger of God who are these people? He replied: Ali is amongst them and Abu Zarr Gheffari, Salman Farsi and Miqdad Ibn Asvad Kendi. "

Do you agree that these people were higher ranked than the people in Saqifah?

Page 217

Sh: Just as I said before, these were the quarrels of companions based on Ijtihad and I accepted your analysis that our justification was wrong. We cannot have several righteous paths and we cannot agree that wherever the companions decide to Ijtihad then that is the right way to go.

Dr: The reason behind the discussion we had was because not all of the companions had the capability of conducting justice. The reason why they should not all be followed explicitly was because of what you just said exactly.

Sh: You cut the routes and now you are cutting the stems and leaves.

Dr: If you cut the root then water will not get to the stems and leaves and if the stems and leaves get cut then the whole thing will dry out.

Sh: Then let’s continue this discussion.

Dr: If you agree that the First, second and third Calipha were chosen by mistake then we have nothing to discuss further.

Sh: The thing that I agree on is that the people whom objected were better than others. But I do not invalidate Abubakr, Umar and Usman being Calipha.

Dr: Then let's continue.

Sh: Yes.

Dr: So you agree that the people whom objected to show their allegiance with Abubakr were not just average people.

Sh: Yes I agree they really were not average and the Prophet's speeches regarding these people of his companions are undeniable.

Dr: Then you can accept that there was a problem in the way they chose the Calipha and the objection of these people clarifies that the methodology of choosing the Calipha had a big question mark.

Sh: Yes, even then it was a question mark.

Dr: But this is a very big question mark.

Sh: What do you mean by big?

Dr: What I mean is that some of the principal companions and Ahl Al Bayt were in a way that they were completely against the Calipha and Caliphas and they undermined the whole thing.

Sh: What are you trying to get at?

Page 218

Dr: What would you say to me if I showed you that some of these people that did not show their allegiance remained against the first Calipha until they passed away and the Prophet has said Hadith's about these disagreements.

Sh: Please speak more clearly.

Dr: Dear Sheikh, one of the people that were against Abubakr and remained that way and did not show her allegiance until the end of her life was Fatimah, the Prophet's daughter.

Sh: She didn't show her allegiance until the end?

Dr: She was alive two or three months after the Prophet and Abubakr being Calipha and she did not show her allegiance to him and this has been accepted everywhere.

Sh: Now, where is the problem?

Dr: Please pay attention to this Hadith in Sahih Bukhari, volume 5, page 82, Aisha says:

ﺗﻮﻓﻴﺖ ﺣﺘﻰ "Aisha says: Fatimah, the prophet's daughter sent someone to Abubakr and requested what was left from the Prophet's inheritence in Medina and Fadak and whatever that was left from Khams Kheybar. Abubakr said: The Prophet told me that there will be nothing inherited by me and whatever that was left is considered Alms. All of the Prophet's Ahl al Bayt can have these Alms as well. I will not change anything that was current at the time of the Prophet and will act in a way that the Prophet would have acted.

So Abubakr denied giving Fatimah her rights and for that reason Fatimah kept her distance from Abubakr and did not speak to him until she died."

Sh: This is correct information.

Dr: Now please read this regarding Fatimah (In Sahih Muslem, volume 12, page 201, Hadith number 4483 says:

Sh: I am aware of the importance of Fatimah in the eye of the Prophet.

Dr: There are Hadith's in Khasais Nesaei regarding Hasaneyn and Fatimah . I have translated and bookmarked it. The following numbers are as below:

For instance number 2/3/28, chapter 28, has three Hadith this is number two. Now let's see what we have in Khasais Nesaei regarding Fatimah:

Sh Usman: Dear Doctor, we accept that the people that were against the Calipha were important people.

Dr: But you do not accept that the actions of the person whom Fatimah was against and hurt her are considered void.

Sh: If we accept then there will be nothing else to talk about.

Sh Usman: If we do not accept it then we have gone against the deal you and Doctor made before.

Sh: I don't know why before we just trusted what everyone else told us and we rarely reviewed our own books.

Sh Usman: I accept, I don't know about Sheikh Ibrahim.

Dr Zohair: I don't know much about these discussions or books and Hadith's but based on my own sense of mind I believe that what the Doctor is saying has no come back. I think that if I continue this discussion I will return as a Shia to England.

Dr: Declare yourself as a true Muslim returning to England. That is because the School of Ahl al Bayt is the real Islam.

Sh: Doctor let's go to the next discussion.

Sh Usman: I think it's better to continue our discussion for Arafa and Mena.

Sh: That is good, I also agree to this.

Dr: I am always happy to be at your service but if you are tired we could meet with each other in Mena.

Sh Usman: I am not tired. I am scared that I will have doubt in believing in my conducts while I am applying my ordinances for Mena and Arafa.

Sh: By the way if there is any difference between the ordinances of conducting Hajj especially Mena and Arafa of Shia and Sunni, please tell us.

Dr: There aren't many important things except a few minor details.

I told them a few details and agreed to meet again by calling each other on our mobiles and then to arrange the rest of the meetings. I had a walk about and talked about the opinion on Shia'sm regarding Mahdi in Hajj especially in Arafa and then I invited them for the next day evening in embassy of Iran (Baese) for the Arafa supplication.
